Determination of residual stress with X-ray diffraction is an important tool in gaining knowledge about the residual stresses present in a component or welded joint and checking the accuracy of numerical simulation results. There are various stationary and mobile X-ray diffractometers for laboratory samples and whole components available at the Fraunhofer IWM for this purpose. Measurements deep in the component are taken using electrolytic material removal.
